The International Dysphagia Diet
All of our homes are able to provide a texture-modified diet range which is developed in line with international dysphagia dietary standards to ensure residents with difficulties swallowing look forward to eating and dining with dignity.
Our practice is based on the best available evidence regarding the selection of an optimal food consistency for a person with dysphagia which has shown that altering food texture has a therapeutic benefit and increases the level of comfort during mealtimes.
Standardisation
The IDDSI framework consists of a continuum of 8 levels, where drinks are measured from levels 0-4 (thin-thick) while foods can be measured from levels 3+ with a range of transitional foods which may lie anywhere between.
IDDSI
Our nursing team work alongside local Speech and Language Therapy clinicians to make recommendations for foods or drinks for each resident based on their comprehensive clinical assessment which are aimed to be sensitive, measurable and applicable to individuals of all age groups in all care settings.
If you would like to learn more comprehensively about the IDDSI feel free to visit their webpage.
